Abstract:
Tanshinones are the major active components of Danshen, which are derived from terpenoids, and farnesyl diphosphate synthase (FPPS) is a key enzyme in terpenoids biosynthetic pathway. A novel FPPS(SmFPPS1, HQ687768) in Salvia miltiorrhiza was cloned and characterized. Bioinformatics analysis showed that SmFPPS1 locates in cytoplasm, and it contains a prenyltransferase domain and two Asp-rich characteristic motifs. The functional complementation tests showed that SmFPPS1 didn′t exhibit activity of GGPPS. Quantitative real-time PCR analysis revealed that the gene expressed constitutively in different development periods, mainly in flowers, and the expression could be induced by methyl jasmonate (MeJA) and fungal elicitor signal.
