Abstract:
The antioxidant activities of total flavonoid from Salvia plebeia (TFS) was evaluated by various in vitro assay systems, such as the β-carotene- linoleic acid model system, reducing power and lipid peroxidation assay, 1, 1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH·) / superoxide (O-·2 ) radical scavenging. TFS showed a significant radical scavenging activity, and the IC50 values for DPPH and superoxide scavenging assay were found to be 0.079 and 0.26 mg/ml, respectively. The reducing power and total antioxidant activity were notable and increasing steadily in a concentration dependent manner. In addition, TFS had effective inhibition of lipid peroxidation. The results indicated that TFS have a potential source of antioxidants of natural origin.
