约翰·麦考文的孤立波研究及其对KdV(1895)的重要影响

摘要:
通过对原始文献和研究文献的分析,考察了约翰·麦考文1891年关于孤立波的工作.他总结了此前孤立波研究的成果和不足,摒弃了经典的浅水波展开方法,创造性地采用正切函数的奇数阶展开,得到了优于前人的结果.约翰·麦考文的这项工作是进一步研究的很好出发点,更是德弗雷斯博士论文选题的重要诱因,因此在19世纪孤立波理论发展中起着承上启下的重要作用.

Abstract:
The John McCowan′s paper about solitary waves in 1891 is examined by textual analysis. McCowan summarized the fruits and deficiencies of the former studies, created the development of odd powers of tangent for shallow water, and got better results than all the former ones. His paper is a good start-point for later studies and especially an important inducement of KdV′s famous work, it also links the preceding and the following researches of the theory of solitary waves in the 19th century.
