Abstract:
The protective affect of Astragalus complanatus extract on the brain tissue in exercise training rats and the physiological and biochemical indicators were investigated.Thirty adult male sprague-dawley rats were selected reared, screened and eliminated individually. The remaining rats were randomly divided into 3 groups, that is the quiet control group of 8 rats(A), exercise control group of 8 rats(B), exercise dosing group of 8 rats(C). After 8 weeks of intensive endurance treadmill training, the activities of superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT) and glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px) , malondialdehyde (MDA) content, ATPase activity, nitric oxide and nitric oxide synthase were tested. The results show that the activities of GSH-Px, CAT and SOD in brain tissue of rats treated with aconite root extract were significantly higher than those of the control group. The content of MDA was significantly decreased and the activity of ATPase increased mean while the content of nitric oxide and the activity of nitric oxide synthase were increased. Astragalus complanatus supplementation can significantly reduce the damage of free radicals produced by lipid peroxidation induced by high-intensity endurance training in rats and protect the integrity of cell membranes and exercise ability.
