Abstract:
The multifunctional technique of “same fiber” pulp was proposed to solve the problems when the traditional pulp method is used to repair the thin, fragile, acidulated archives, such as ancient books and manuscripts. The multifunctional inorganic nano-materials were added to traditional pulp, the performance of reinforced pulp is improved and the reinforcement, deacidification, mildew proof and anti-UV aging of paper could be simultaneously completed. The results from folding strength, tensile strength, flexibility, pH, thickness and mildew proof tests before and after restoration and aging show that this technology improves durability and antimould effect of paper, and almost maintains flexibility, pH value and thickness of paper. This new technology is successfully applied in the salvaging and restoring for ancient books in the Qing Dynasty, meanwhile it achieves a good protective effect.
