Abstract:
The titanium alloy turning technique based on the electro-plastic ultrasonic- vibration coupling effect is proposed.Tests for conventional turning(CT),ultrasonic-vibration assisted turning (UAT) and electro-plastic ultrasonic-vibration assisted turning(EUAT)of titanium alloy are carried out. Comparing with CT, the cutting forces decreases a little in UAT, while decreases obviously in EUAT.It also turns out that compared with CT, the surface quality is not a noticeable change in UAT but a effectively improvement in EUAT. The effects of discharge voltage and discharge frequency on the cutting force and surface quality of EUAT are investigated. The experimental also reveals that a larger discharge voltage and a higher discharge frequency are imperative to reduce the cutting force and obtain a better surface quality.
