Abstract:
The present study was to investigate the antidepressant function of Folic Acid in depressive rats induced by PCPA. Sixty male SD rats were divided into control group (CG), model group (MG), Fluoxetine treated-model group(FAG), and folic acid treated-model group(FAG,50 mg/kg and 75 mg/kg). The changes of depressive behaviors were evaluated by tail suspension test, force swimming test and sugar consumption. The corticosterone in serum and 5-HT in brain were evaluated by HPLC. Results showed that folic acid can significantly decrease the immobility time in tail suspension test, force swimming test, obviously decrease the level of corticosterone in serum and increase the levels of 5-HT in combined cortex and hippocampus(P
