Abstract:
The environmental simulation laboratory method was applied to explore the effect of the gaseous acetic acid on the durability of paper archives and handwriting in a simulated micro environment. The results show that the mechanical strength, acidity, whiteness, and writing of paper have been negatively affected by acetic acid gas. The SEM and XRF were employed to further investigate the detailed mechanism of the acetic acid gas reaction with paper. Results in agglomeration of filler in paper and reduction of paper polymerization and crystallinity.
