Abstract:
The levels of glutamic pyruvic transaminase(AST), alkaline phosphatase(ALP) and total bilirubin(TB) in serum, the contents of glutathione peroxidase(GSH-Px), superoxide dismutase(SOD), catalase(CAT) and malondialdehyde(MDA) in liver tissue, and histopathological changes of mice under light microscope were used to evaluate the effects of pomegranate juice on acute liver injury by carbon tetrachloride in mice. The results showed, compared to the mice model of liver injury, the serum levels of ALT was significantly decreased in pomegranate juice(PJ) groups(P<0.01), and AST, ALP, TB, liver index were not significantly decreased by PJ(P>0.05). GSH-Px (P<0.01)and SOD(P<0.05) were significantly decreased, and MDA content was significantly decreased(P<0.01). From the pathological slices, PJ can significantly prevent the liver injury induced by CCl4, and alleviate the degree of liver damage. Therefore, PJ has a protective effect on acute liver injury induced by CCl4.
