Abstract:
The cine film is an important historical and cultural heritage. The substrate of the cine film,i.e., cellulose acetate, easily suffered from the acetic acid syndrome in the long-term preservation, which seriously affects its durable collection. The physical and chemical properties of cellulose acetate film substrate with and without acetic acid syndrome were comparatively studied. The results showed that,in general, the acetic acid syndrome happened easily during the preservation, and the polarity and hydrophily of the film was increased, while the thermal stability was reduced. The experimental results indicate that the cellulose acetate film, especially with the acetic acid syndrome, should be stored in the surrounding of lower temperature and humidity.
