Abstract:
The effects of three kinds of alkaline chemicals, i.e., melamine, ammonium hydroxide, and sodium hydroxide, on the pH oscillation of BrO-3-SO2-3-Fe(CN)4-6(BSF) system were studied using a continuous flow stirred setup. The alkalinity, buffering effect and primary salt effect of melamine resulted in a linear decrease of amplitude and period of pH oscillation; however, the pH amplitude kept unchanged and the period linearly increased with the increase of ammonium hydroxide or sodium hydroxide mainly on account for its alkalinity. This research is significant for establishing the method for adjusting the pH oscillation behaviors through introducing foreign materials.
