Abstract:
The effects of sodium benzoate, potassium sorbate, and citric acid on pH oscillation of BrO3--SO2-3-Fe(CN)4-6-H+(BSF) system were studied using a continuous flow stirred setup. The amplitude of the pH oscillation could be depressed by organic weak acid salts, and there were linear relationship between the amplitude and concentration of these salts. The oscillation could be depressed thoroughly as the concentration of salts is beyond certain concentration. Additionally, the period of the pH oscillation could be shortened by these salts. The phenomena above mentioned could be explained in terms of the buffering effect and primary salt effect. The present research is significant for studying the effects of weak acid salts on the pH oscillation.
