Abstract:
Chinese cause, ethics of charity, and ideological system of ethics of charity are all closely related with Chinese view of property. An efficient approach and means of historical materialism is to reveal differences between Chinese and western views of property in terms of longstanding cultural traditions so as to seek some inspiration and methodology. This paper analyzes similarities and differences between Chinese and western views of property through a comparison in worship, canons of manners and mode of thinking, and investigates the respective traditional origins of Chinese and western views of property, including cultural sources of family love and equality love, psychological motivation for autonomy and heteronomy and Chinese benevolence derived from ethics of human character and Christian love originated from God’s divinity. It attempts to develop ideological system of charity ethics by the two principles and three concerns.
