Abstract:
An investigation of Xu Beihong’s and Lin Fengmian's artistic works and opinions shows that they two differed not only in aesthetic taste but in artistic view. However, this doesn’t mean they stood pole apart in artistic pursuit. On the contrary, they showed prominent agreement in aim of artistic pursuit. Both of them advocated a combination of art and practice, pursued a public understanding and hoped to remove defects in traditional Chinese painting with the help of western painting. For this reason, Xu Beihong and Lin Fengmian pursued the same goal just by different moeans.
