Abstract:
A clear trace of growth of democratization of new literature took shape from the China Union of Leftist Writers through the National AntiJapanese Society of Literary Counties of China to “Yan’an”. New literature in the period of the Leftist Union contributed historically discussion on democratization, but no democratic works in a real sense. “The Literary Society” carried on the discussions started by the Leftist Union, and contributed mainly the theoretical study of “national forms”. The period of Yan’an marked the time of achievement of the democratic movement, in which two critical conditions allowed no negligence. First, a profound and systematic classification of democratization was offered in The Speech at the Forum of Literature and Art in Yan’an, in which the theoretical shortage and defects in discussions in the period of the Leftist Union were effectively mended by collectively and wholesomely raising the theoretical level of the discussion. The theory expounded in the speech was so pertinent and so practical that it was of primary importance to writers. Secondly, with the help of political strength, a democratic campaign of literature and art was capable of spreading thoroughly at all levels. This superincumbent support of political strength served as the necessary circumstance for the tremendous accomplishments of the democratic campaign of literature and art in Yan’an.
