In the growth of Chinese new literature, Yan’an literature and art carried on and advanced the enlightenment of the May4th literature, continued the theoretical construction started by the Leftwing Movement of Literature and Art by further deepening the discussion and practice of popularization and nationalism, and successfully answered the question of literature and art serving the broad masses. The shaping of Yan’an literature and art was one of the greatest incidents in the current century of the cultural and literary history of China, which had broad political and cultural influence not only in the current days but also after the founding of the People’s Republic. Since the 1990’s, the various literary trends emerging in the world of literature and art, such as “return of realism”, “grassroot writing”, “red classics” and varieties of subjectmatters of revolutionary history, were either spiritually inspired or practically nourished ed by Yan’an literature and art. In the context of the new period, it is of considerable significance to really recognizing “Chinese experience” to deeply explore the close relation between Yan’an literature and art and the 20thcentury Chinese literature, squarely face its tremendous influence, and reperceive the modernity of the spiritual construct of Yan’an literature and art by drawing upon and absorbing the experience of Yan’an literature and art to reflect and observe miscellaneous problems facing the current Chinese literature.
