Abstract:
In recent years, Chinese academic world has tended to gradually revive ancient aesthetics of China, which makes it necessary to revise a series of related theoretical issues. What comes first is the ancient origin of Chinese aesthetics, then the mutualistic relationship between beauty and Chinese pre-historic civilization and the shaping of aesthetic community. Under this context, the view of the world of early Chinese society helped outline the initial pattern of ancient aesthetics, the relation between men and land established by the primitive civilization of agriculture offered essential prescriptions, and the strong intention of visual expression in patterns on the objects meant the current self-consciousness of expressing beauty. Therefore, it is far from enough to merely depend on mutual reference and mutual verification between preserved documents and archeological materials for a proper investigation of aesthetics in such a distinctive period of history. Also philosophy ought to be introduced to testify the effectiveness of material use and a logical procedure to be established for the evolution of aesthetics.
