Abstract:
One of the eminent scholars in the Tang and the Song Dynasty, Han Yu always enjoyed great reputation. Even in depressing moment of his life when he was banished from the court to the state of Chao, he managed to obtain promotion from man to god in the minds of people in the state in the Tang and the Song Dynasty. In this evolutionary and promoting course, worship of the past scholars and integrity of man and god popular in local folks and prosperity of Confucianism in the Song Dynasty helped speed up Han Yu’s deification. Besides, changes in sacrificecontributing policies in local ancestral halls and temples and Han’s charm as a cultural personality and other relevant factors functioned together to accomplish the cultural wonder of Han Yu as “a man in the Tang Dynasty but a god in the Song Dynasty”.
