Abstract:
Inscriptions on tablets that occurred in ancient Korea were both important part of Korean study of inscriptions and dispensable historical materials in the compilation of Korean history. With insufficient historical documents, a brief knowledge of the current state of development of social political culture shows the importance of inscriptions as historical documents. This paper attempts on the basis of current studies to explore such questions as delimitation of historical phases in ancient Korea and its bases, contents of inscriptions, the atmosphere of the whole society's attention to Buddhism, and the process of composing, writing and curving pagoda tablets so as to develop a systematic understanding of the general situation of current inscriptions and historical facts they recorded.
