Abstract:
Since the 1980’s, studies of Song Qingling in mainland China have mostly showed concern only with her political part but failed to make enough exploration of her role as a female. Fortunately, a more real and fuller image of Song Qingling as a combination of traditional and modern female takes shape in a way in the texts of her private letters. The then life and educational context blended with Chinese and western cultures established Song Qingling basically as an independent female with a Chinesewesternfused mind. After Sun Yatsen’s passing away, Song Qingling interpreted a “modern” female’s attitude toward traditional life and revolutionary ideal under the blending of Chinese and western cultures by taking an independent ideal path of her own with persistent pursuit of life, freedom and happiness. It is just in this sense that with her journey of life Song Qingling annotated Chinese females’ path of selfemancipation in the 20th century and meanwhile established herself as a model of seeking modern life mans for Chinese females to follow.
