Abstract:
The town of Changling was built around Emperor of Gaozu of the West Han Dynasty’s Mausoleum of Changling as a special executive region for guarding and protecting the mausoleum and contributing sacrifices. As a special local executive organization, the town of Changling made significant effects in consolidating Chang’an’s status as the political centre, promoting economic prosperity in Chang’an, developing culture and education around Chang’an and enhancing diversity of folk customs in Guanzhong. It was by defending the capital through more centralized than democratic political administration and by developing agricultural technology economically that the local government of Changling managed both to raise local cultural quality and enrich folk customs of the locality.
