Abstract:
Differing from scholastic associations in a general sense, the “Leftist Union” was a united organization of poets, writers and critics with a “leftist” tendency ranging from political culture to literature and art. An intellectual retired from the leadership of the “leftist” party, Qu Qiubai was both a poet, writer and critic, and above all, a soldier with high consciousness standing at the front. Although his connection with the “Leftist Union” didn’t last long, his influence was enormous and long. He advocated a campaign of popularizing literature and art, thinking a writer should always keep common people in mind when he was engaged in literary criticism or literary writing. His view of literature and art really expressed the communist thought in the early days to devote to proletarian political liberation. In that period of the ascendance and intension of contradictions between new and old cultures and new and old politics, Qu Qiubai consistently stood at the front of the one side representing the bright, the radical and the historical choice.
