Abstract:
The imperial ceremony in the early days of the Sui Dynasty carried on for 13 years till it was replaced by the tone of “Huang Zhong Yi Gong” made by He Tuo. He Tuo received the trust of Emperor of Wen in the Sui Dynasty not only because he knew music well but also because he understood politics completely. He managed to combined politics closely with music by the tone of “Huang Zhong Yi Gong”, making music and politics communicable. He defended for the political rule of the Sui Dynasty by means of music’s social function of refining customs. The introduction of the tone of “Huang Zhong Yi Gong” in the reign of Emperor of Wen helped strengthen the imperial power and consolidate the imperial rule. Therefore, He Tuo was far from a person who knew no music but a musician who understood deeply the relationship between music and politics.
