Fei Xiaotong contributed large quantities of works on rural societies and small town studies. A histogeographical analysis in terms of his sociological study of urban and rural societies shows that it was obvious that Fei made his sociological studies by consciously applying histogeographical theory and means under the comprehensive function of academic tradition of his family, functionalist academic line, academic attitude emphasizing historical background and influence of histogeography.
