A discrimination of fact from value remains an important argument in western philosophy of value. Moore, founder of metaethics, made significant contributions to this discrimination. After that, any attempt to relate fact to value must answer the “argumentation of open questions” set by Moore. The previous naturalism failed in its efforts to answer Moore’s questions, but the naturalism represented by Seir offered a novel understanding of the relationship between fact and value by answer Moore’s questions with institutional facts. Thus, a reinterpretation of the relationship between fact and value will depend upon the deterministic function of institutional facts to social values.
