科举开放与书院发展

摘要:
科举制度允许士人自由报考,这不仅是科举开放性的重要标志,而且也是传统中国政权向普通士人开放的重要途径。科举的开放极大地激发了士人读书应举的积极性,士人数量因此急剧增加。由科举开放所带来的士人的求学热潮不仅是书院产生的重要因素,而且也是书院获得发展与普及的主要推动力量之一。在满足士人应试科举需求的同时,书院也逐渐沦为科举的附庸,最终被改制为新式学堂而退出了历史舞台。

Opening Door of Imperial Test and Growth of Academies

Abstract:
The imperial test permitted scholars to freely register, which was not only an important symbol of opening door of the test but also a principal means for the traditional Chinese power to open to the commons. The opening door of the imperial test greatly inspired the scholars’ initiative to study and participate in the imperial test. As a result, the number of scholars rose dramatically. The scholars’ enthusiasm for study was not only a leading factor for the rise of academies but also a important kind of impetus to the development and popularity of academies.
