Abstract:
For Mou Zongsan, of all western philosophers, Kant had most similarities to Chinese philosophy. His view of moral selfdiscipline was much close to Mencius while Zhu Xi, who advocated moral otherdiscipline, was quite different from Kant. In fact, however, of all Confucianist philosophers, who was closest to Kant was not Mencius but Zhu Xi. Therefore, if we really intend to compare Confucianism with Kant’s philosophy, it is not so proper to identify Kant with Mencius but with Zhu Xi.
