Abstract:
During the 30 years between the reign of Emperor of Jing and Emperor of Wu and the 4th years of the Imperial Title of Yuanshou, a critical historical phase to the survival and growth of the Chinese nation, Sima Xiangru wrote a series of text, consistently glorifying the imperial internal will for the sake of the emperor and the Han empire. In fact, all those historical advancements characteristic of the reign of Emperor of Wu in the Han Dynasty were figuratively represented in Xiangru's text, such as instructing the lords to do their due bit, resisting against invasion and disturbance of the Huns, fighting the barbarians in the north, pacifying the national minorities in the south, calling on for building a unified China and enhancing the coming of the unified China, advocating "building temples in eminent mountains and valleys" and contributing sacrifices to Heaven in Mount Tai to extol the great achievements and lofty moral of the Han Emperor, and encouraging to "attack and suppress under the guidance of the Heaven's will" and "planning each campaign properly and purposefully".
