Abstract:
Grown out of the color pottery in Laoguantai, the Banpo pottery marked the first peak of art of color pottery in China. The current natural surroundings in the locality, the life of hunting and fishing, the primitive religion, and the stone and bone artifacts and knittings all exerted great influence on the artistic aspiration, taste, and contents of presentation of the Banpo color pottery. Always with smooth lines and simple designs, the linear decoration and shape of artifacts were highly harmonious and integrated, conforming only to a pragmatic principle. Meanwhile, the ancestors in Banpo paid full attention to the angel and effect of appreciation when they invented color pottery. As a result, they created clear and elegant realistic linear decoration and simple and grand geometric decoration, which mutually influenced to promote the advancement of linear decoration.
