Abstract:
The Tiele was one of the major ethnics in ancient times of our country. In the Tang Dynasty, the habitation of different Tiele tribes far in northern China was the key area where the dynasty established the prefecture of Jimi, which formed part of the northern territory of the Tang Dynasty. In the 20th year of the imperial title of Zhenguan, the 12 tribes of 9 Tiele families surrendered to the dynasty. In September of the same year, the sheiks of those tribes went personally to Chang’an to have an audience with Emperor of Taizong and requested again to “send imperial governors” over there. In January of the 21st year, the court of Tang officially established the prefecture of Jimi, which divided into 6 governorates and 7 states, totaling 13 executive offices. By June in the 3rd year of the imperial title of Yonghui(652 AD), two more governorates and five more states were added, totaling 8 governorates and 12 states together with the former ones. However, between the 4th year of Yonghui and the 14th year of Tianbao, most executive offices of the prefecture of Jimi migrated along with their respective Tiele tribes to the north of the circuits of Longyou, Guannei and Hedong.
