论清末民营出版业的崛起及其意义

摘要:
近代民营新式出版是在社会外力及技术、经济力量的促动下逐渐发展起来的,晚于教会出版40年,晚于洋务出版10多年。以技术革新为特征的石印书局、点石斋书局拉开了民营出版序幕,同文书局、拜石山房开启了民营出版之江河。民营出版以出版变法维新的报刊、书籍,出版翻译著作、教科书以及小说为其主要内容,以获得丰厚利润为最终根本。民营出版的迅速崛起,使之成为清末三足鼎立之出版主体之一;这是社会转型在出版业中的反映,是出版业自然发展的必然选择,也是时代文化的感应物,是近代文化重要组成部分。

Takingoff of Private Publishing Industry in the Late Qing Dynasty and Its Significance

Abstract:
Modern private newstyle publication gradually advanced depending upon the enhancement of external social forces and technological and economic power, which came 40 years later than foreign missionary publication and 10 years later than Westernization publication. The Shiyin Publishing House and the Dianshizhai Publishing House marked the prelude of private publishing industry with their characteristic technological innovations, whereas the Tongwen Publishing House and the Baishishanfang symbolized a fullfledged development of private publishing industry in China. As a result, the rapidlyemerging private publishing industry was able to rank among the three publishing giants in the late Qing Dynasty. This meant a response to social transformation within publishing industry, which formed part of modern culture in China.
