Abstract:
Ancient literature and contemporary literature are two forms of concept, and so are ancient literary classics and contemporary literary classics. Contemporary literature is a factual description while ancient literature is an explanatory concept. Ancient literature agrees with ancient literary classics whereas contemporary literary classics mean borrowing and variation of ancient literary classics, hence containing unavoidable imaginative elements. A confusion of these distinctions will result in some unnecessary theoretical perplexity, which occurred as the view of ideology of literary classics. With the removal of this confusion, we will discover the two side of literary activity, that is, literary classics and literary character. The hierarchization of these concepts means mainly a diagnosis, which is preliminary but won't continue till all related concepts are discriminated.
