Abstract:
Watchtowers, decorative constructions to palaces, temples and tombs in the Han Dynasty, usually stood on both sides of the passage in front of the gate as symbols of grandeur. As a style of ancient art of architecture, the watchtower was clearly characteristic of Chinese traditional culture, so it represented a form of Chinese traditional civilization of architecture. The construction of watchtowers in the Han Dynasty embodied the conception of “Man being in harmony with the Heaven” in architectonic designs and quality of construction material and the view of harmony between men and nature in construction of architectonic environment. All this provides some useful considerations for development of modern architecture.
