Abstract:
In the 1950’s, novels in Taiwan developed such forms of novels as modernism, female narration, Taiwan folklore beyond the mainstream ideology of “opposing the Communists and resisting Russia” and produced a form of novel deviating from official ideology just inside some “mainstream” category, shaping diverse “marginal” forms. The struggle between dynamic configuration of novel development and stiff political institutions and ideology created a climate in which novels in Taiwan managed to gain a lot of individual room in spite of the high political pressure in the 1950’s, which contributed fruitful achievements Taiwan novels as well as Chinese contemporary novels in the 1960’s.
