Abstract:
Wang Wei was favorably commented as “the poet of poets” by Emperor of Daizong in the Tang Dynasty. The emperor's appreciation of Wang Wei didn't represent only an ordinary reader's comment of an average poet but showed also the current supreme ruler's political attitude to and aesthetic interest in literary writing. In terms of imperial politics, Wang's graceful and harmonious poems stood for a novel style of classics in the eyes of the emperor while in terms of everyday life, his poetry reflected the aesthetic norm and artistic taste of the aristocracy in the prosperous phase of the Tang Dynasty. As a result, of all poets in this historical period, Wang Wei was the only one that fell in with the political requirement and aesthetic expectation of the feudal rulers and their government.
