Abstract:
Prevailing in Chang′an, the capital of the Sui and the Tang Dynasty, was a common practice of reciting and explicating Buddhist classics. In those days there were varieties of Buddhist academies and different sizes of Buddhist schools in the capital, which laid a foundation for the rise of the Chinesecharacteristic Buddhist sect. It was just in such cultural background that six of the eight major sects of Chinese Buddhism took shape in Chang′an.
