Abstract:
The issue point and systematic features of Xi Jinping’s theory on enhancing cohesion are not based on simple and spontaneous concern over problems, but on the strategic vision and bottomline thinking and on the conscious understanding of the logic resulting from a series of problems in the new era, which are gained from history and reality, international and domestic situations, theory and practice. The theory consists of mutually connected three dimensions including the general and fundamental problem, the key problems, and the new strategic problems. The general and fundamental problem that the theory on cohesion aims to solve is whether or not socialist values can enhance cohesion and how it should be done effectively with power. Two key problems contain two levels. At one level, where should the whole nation be directed with socialist values? How could the nature of socialism and its core requirements be reflected through values? At the second level, how should it be used to achieve cohesion? Here, the key lies in how to maintain unity between the party spirit and the people’s character so as to provide the spiritual power of “enhancing the foundation” and “prolonging the depth”. The new strategic problems include thinking about what kinds of core values to build and how to do it so as to follow the theme of “the two centenary goals” and the dream of realizing the Chinese nation’s rejuvenation, and grasping the macro, midlevel, and micro problems involved in enhancing cohesion via socialist values in the new era.Grasping and implementing comprehensively the system of problems in Xi Jinping’s theory on enhancing cohesion and related discourse can provide guiding ideas and basic principles for pushing forward the innovative development and conversion of traditional culture, and offer fundamental lines to act upon for further enhancing the cohesion of the Chinese nation.
