Abstract:
Zionism was the result of nationalism and antiSemitism in modern Europe. After 1881, with Russian Jews emigrating to America, Zionism was present in the country, but advanced very slowly because of the rejection of Reformist Judaism. From 1914, American Zionism was led by Louis D.Brandeis, who transformed and supervised the movement, and deeply engaged in the draft and promulgation of to the Balfour Declaration that pulled worldwide Zionism out of its slump. In just four years, Brandeis not only changed the direction of American Zionism and made a movement of marginal and smallgroup characteristics before the World War Ⅰ became a remarkable socialpolitical one, but also provided the basis for America later firmly supporting Zionism.Meanwhile,Brandeis himself also became a key figure in the development of American Zionism.
