Abstract:
After the resumption of the college entrance examination and enrollment system in 1977, higher education has witnessed a period of transition from the elite to the masses. In this process, professional education and professional values have been gradually improved, and major selection has become the focus of social concern and an important part of the reform of enrollment system. Conferring reasonable rights to a major selection can achieve the best match between the individual and majority, select the talents scientifically, maintain social justice, and improve the quality of talents training. Some policies, such as independent recruitment, recruiting students according to discipline, merging the admission batches, parallel major enrollment pattern in a certain extent expand students’ major choices, but these policies also have problems, such as localization to a few groups, lack of systematic consideration and little consideration to fairness ect. At present, institutional factors which restrict students’ major choices still widely exist. To further expand students’ major choices, it is necessary to establish universities’ main status in enrollment, expand the public scope of university major information, provide necessary professional guidance, and drive the supplyside reform in major selection.
