Abstract:
Numerous unearthed Tang epitaphs referred to the personal experiences and memories of the persons involved in the An LushanShi Siming Rebellion.They can be compared and verified with historical documents and literatures. Topics covered include accounts of the prosperity of the Tang Dynasty before the rebellion, the military propaganda made by the An LushanShi Siming’s rebelling group, the social psychology in rebeloccupied areas, the official adherents of the rebels, the “false” reign titles of the An LushanShi Siming Rebellion, the collapse of the imperial examination during the rebelling times which disappointed many ordinary people, and the situation of ordinary families. All these personal accounts of individual experiences discovered in the Tang epitaphs can greatly contribute to the knowledge of the cataclysm.
