Abstract:
Though scholars have conducted a lot of research on the supervision system in the Tang Dynasty, research on its characteristics is still limited. Generally speaking, the supervision system in the Tang Dynasty possesses the following aspects. First, the system had vertical monitoring structure. Second, supervision was carried out on censors’ and officials’ routine work. Third, supervision was consistently applied to works of auditing and inspecting agencies at all levels. Fourth, impeached officials were suspended until the investigation was completed. Fifth, government agencies supervised each other. Last, the government took measures to raise the censors’ political status. The above characteristics were formed by absorbing the supervisory essence of preceding dynasties and taking the political and economic situation of the Tang Dynasty into consideration. The supervision system in the Tang Dynasty can provide inspiration for modern society.
