Abstract:
Of different popular carriers of literature in history, including oracle bones, bamboo slips, wooden tablets, sybil, leather, paper, metal and stone, stone carvings provided great help for literary development with their unique advantage and permanent, timely and open form of dissemination. First of all, stone carvings offered a platform of learning and inspired people’s enthusiasm for writing. Then, they highlighted the attraction of literature, sustaining the life of literary works and flourishing literary writing. Finally, stone carvings helped to preserve a large quantity of writers and their works. Owing to their different function of dissemination from other forms, contributions of stone carvings to literary prosperity in history are worth enough attention and full acceptance.
