Abstract:
A prominent aesthetic distinction in charactercarved eaves tiles of the Han Dynasty, the “circle” is an “implicative form” that provokes aesthetic emotion of the appreciator. The distinct circular making of charactercarved eaves tiles agrees with people’s pursuit of aesthetic psychology, whose tension makes charactercarved eaves tiles give out a rhythmic sense of beauty. The charactercarved eaves tiles adopted the method of increaseordecrease density, that of transferred variation, and that of flexion deformation in specific space and designed the circle according to particular cases. The circular style and tender line of their character writing showed formal beauty of calligraphic art. In a word, charactercarved eaves tiles carry the cultural implications of circles, embody the wonderful implication of circle, which pins the Chinese hope to pursue a happy and pleasant worldly life, and entrust the typical Chinese aesthetic wisdom of perfect life existence.
