Abstract:
The cities in South China used to receive attacks of varieties of calamities with floods, fire accidents and diseases as the leading ones in their development in the Tang and the Five Dynasties. Serious damage caused by repeated urban disasters made certain negative effects on urban development. Nevertheless, in addition to natural reasons, causes for frequent disasters in cities in South China were varied, including poor location of cities, increase of the urban population and great circulation of people, defects in urban construction and whatever. Whenever a disaster happened, the cities in South China would take active relief actions. They also had certain precautious consciousness and measures in urban construction.
