Only 8 regular seven-character poems written by Li Bai are well preserved up till now, plus other 2 minor regular sevencharacter poems. Former scholars tended to take Li Bai’s regular sevencharacter verse as not exquisite enough, filled with illtuned and noncoherent lines. The reason was that the regular sevencharacter verse was not sophisticated in those days. Moreover, Li Bai pursued mainly to express his intention by association and highlight his personality in his poem writing. As a result, although only a few works were handed down, still they helped to raise the style, expand the content and deepen the connotation of sevencharacter verse.
