Abstract:
Cyprus, a tiny insular country in the east of the Mediterranean, actively developed her relation with European countries after independence, becoming a contact member country of the European Community first and then establishing a customs union with it, and finally became a member country of the Community. The special national conditions as a separated nation, the arduous and winding course of participating in the European Community, varied involved and complicated factors, and a combination of domestic and foreign contradictions made up the special background and complex reasons for Cyprus to participate in the Community, which had profound impacts on Cyprus itself as a European Community member, the European Community and big powers around.
