Abstract:
The art of painting took an important place both in Proust’s writing and in his realistic life. This was, for the one place, because of the author’s love for the art of painting, and for the other, because of needs of writing and narration. In his novel The Remembrance of the Things Past and other writings, Proust offered abundant description of the painters, paintings and shades of colours. A careful analysis of his reference of painting in such themes as time, reminiscence, metaphor, intuition, love and whatever in his literary writing and in his everyday life will help to rebuild the relationship between the art of painting and Proust’s literary writing and understand the reason for the art of painting serving as his leading means to look back to the past times.
