Abstract:
During the 290 years of the Tang Dynasty, 79 annual floods happened in all in the Guanzhong Plains. The floods in those days showed the following prominent characteristics: 1. continuity: floods that lasted two years in running happened most frequently; 2. imbalanced distribution: floods occurred only arbitrarily in month and season, more in summer and autumn than in spring and winter; 3. more seasonal and continuous floods: there were nine annual floods that lasted two seasons and even more. As a result, extremely and very serious floods took 69.62% of all that happened in this historical period, which had very great impact on social life and natural environment of the area in the Tang Dynasty.
