Abstract:
Complex, implicative and multicultural, Zhao Shili left traces of his identity and experience, intellectual background, personality and character and aesthetic orientation in his literary writings. As a farmer intellectual, Zhao had been exposed to Confucian culture, the May4th new culture and revolutionary culture, which built up his high culture mind. This unavoidably found its way to thinking conception, value orientation, emotion expression and artistic exploration in his literary writing. As a combination of both farmer and intellectual, he had a relatively multicultural accomplishment and special aesthetic choice, which made him not only acceptant to but breaking away from traditions of high culture to some degree. Nourished by a multivariant culture, Zhao’s literary writing showed a general tendency of fusion between high and low culture and ended up in the realm of highculturebased low culture. As attempt to link high culture to low culture has become a general tendency of developing culture of modern society, Zhao’s aesthetic choice and pursuit in his literary writing may offer us some significant references and inspirations.
