Abstract:
In the 1950s, Mr. Bai Shouyi advocated shaking off the imperial view of history and shaping a history of the growth of Chinese nationalities in terms of the domain of China’s territory. This initiated a debate over the historical domains of China in the day. Mr. Bai emphasized the importance of the development of minorities to the integrate progress of Chinese society and pointed out that feudalism in the areas of minorities were important features of the development of Chinese feudal society. Moreover, he deeply expounded the relationships between unification and separation in separation in Chinese history and explored the formation and development of China in history as a unified multiethnic country. In a word, Mr. Bai’s academic thoughts had significant influence on Chinese borderland studies.
